May 24th, 2013 marked the 40th anniversary of the first Lottery drawing in the state of Maryland, which occurred at Hopkins Plaza. At the time, tickets were only 50 cents.

Taken from the press release: “In the four decades since, some have won big, others have won small, but none has won more than the state of Maryland. Lottery figures show the state has made $12.8 billion in lottery revenues, and has used the money to support a variety of state initiatives including education and public safety programs.”

New York, May 7, 2013 – Hudson Alley Software, Inc. announced today that the Georgia Lottery Corporation is implementing its new iPad-based lottery sales force application, OnePlace. The new software will replace the OrderPad for Lotteries software that the Georgia Lottery’s sales team has used since 2006.

“We are thrilled that Georgia Lottery will be our first customer to migrate from OrderPad for Lotteries to OnePlace,” said Hudson Alley CEO, Adam Perlow. “The partnership we have with Georgia Lottery is extremely important to us and we couldn’t be happier that it will continue in the coming years.”

OnePlace offers two user experiences; a native iPad app that is fast, incredibly usable, beautiful, and that uses locally cached data for users in the field, and a web app that has all of the features of the iPad app and more – optimized for users in the office or those using traditional PCs.

Since 2004, Hudson Alley Software has been the undisputed leader in lottery sales force software. Illinois Lottery is introducing a new scratch off family called The Good Life. Players will have the chance to win up to $10,000 a week for 20 years! Check out their new commercial which shows the factory that is making the scratchers and the “Good Life”.

Hoosier Lottery has introduced a new family of scratch-offs called “Cash for Life.” Much like the name implies, players have the chance to collect winnings their whole life. “The Cash For Life games are unique because the top prize offers winners the opportunity to receive payments for the rest of their lives,” said Jessica Powell, Vice President of Marketing for the Hoosier Lottery. “With Cash for Life, the longer a winner lives, the more the Hoosier Lottery gives.”

The scratchers are priced at $1, $2, $5 or $10, giving players a chance to win up to $500 a week for life to $5,000 a week for life. This new family of scratch-offs will become a staple for the lottery. Read more about the scratch-offs here.

It looks like Arizona Lottery is giving players more than a few chances to win in the new year. The lottery just introduced their “Arizona Black” series of tickets, which gives players the opportunity to enter non-winning tickets online and win the largest prize amounts from any second chance drawings from the Arizona Lottery. Pennsylvania Lottery is getting festive this holiday season with SIX new instant games. What better way to celebrate? The names of the six are: Merry Millions, Trim The Tree, Fro$ty Ca$h, Snowball Bucks, Sweet Winnings and Stocking Stuffer Doubler. PA Lottery is hoping to push the idea of lottery tickets as a great gift idea or stocking stuffer this year.

The DC Lottery has come out with a new scratcher celebrating the Washington Wizards basketball team! The scratcher gives players the chance to win a top prize of $6,000 by matching their winning numbers to any of the numbers being scratched off. If players lose, they have the opportunity to enter in a 2nd chance drawing for the chance to win season tickets for the Washington Wizards!

Lottery games are becoming more and more interactive. A new game from the Atlantic Lottery called GeoSweep is almost like virtual roulette. In the game, Atlantic Canada is mapped out in squares called “Geos” and players can purchase these Geos for 7.50 for 30 days. The History Channel’s popular show “Swamp People” was featured on a new $2 scratch off for Louisiana Lottery. If you’re not familiar with Swamp People, there is a famous phrase on the show – “Choot ‘em”. This phrase can be seen on plenty of fan memorabilia – t-shirts, coffee mugs, and now even lottery tickets. This game was a huge hit for Louisiana Lottery and sold out in just a little over 2 weeks, so the Lottery did a second run of the game with another 1.2 Million tickets. It was also a finalist for Best New Instant Game at the World Lottery Summit! It is easy to see from the comercial below that the Lottery had a lot of fun with this game. Anyone can win the lottery – even Maya Rudolph. She recently visited The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on NBC to discuss her Emmy nomination for hosting Saturday Night Live this past season. Leno asked her if she was excited about the nomination and if she had won anything previously. She responded by telling him that she won the New York Lottery when she was 22 and a waitress in NYC.
