Looking for OrderPad Software?
You’re in the right place. We’ve changed our name to Hudson Alley. You can read about the change in this blog post.
The backstory
We got involved in the lottery industry by accident. Back in late 2002, OrderPad was nothing more than an idea. Several of the people that make up OrderPad Software, Inc. today were then employees of Cole Systems Associates, a New York City based systems integration firm specializing in Microsoft Business Solutions ERP and CRM systems. This is also the time that Microsoft was introducing the Tablet PC.
Cole Systems had a client that was looking for a better way to place orders from the field. Their current process was to handwrite orders in the field, fax them in to the office at some point, and then somebody else would key them into the system. We discussed the available sales force automation options and none of them appealed to them. The solutions available weren’t realistic for field sales people. They were designed for people who wear headsets all day and not for those that have their hands on their steering wheel more than their mouse. There were handheld solutions, but the screens were too small to be useful for looking up sales history and actually placing an order.
At the same time, we had just received the first versions of the Tablet PC that we had pre-ordered months before. Right away we knew it was the solution they were looking for. It was the perfect form factor for sales reps calling on retail accounts; it was even easier to carry than the three ring binder they were accustomed to. The rub was that there wasn’t any good software available for this type of use.
So, in 2003 we decided to create OrderPad. We had several implementations of OrderPad by late 2003, but our big break came when we received an RFI from the New York Lottery. The New York Lottery had been a pioneer in this area and was among the first lotteries to equip their sales team with laptops in 1999. They found that the information that was accessible to the sales reps made a big difference in the performance of the field team, but the software they had was too hard to use, too slow, and the laptops were too bulky to carry around and hard to use at a retail location. They set out to look for a replacement system that would be easier for the sales team to actually use. After a rigorous selection process that included solutions from more than twenty companies, our software was selected and our journey into the lottery industry began.
New York City’s Tribeca neighborhood is home to celebrities like Robert De Niro, James Gandolfini, John Stewart, and Jay-Z. It is also home to some of New York’s best restaurants like Nobu and the Tribeca Grill. And, it is home to OrderPad Software, where you can find us on the fourth floor of a beautiful historic six story building.
OrderPad Software is now known as Hudson Alley Software. The new name change reflects our growing business and the introduction of new products.
